Danphone selected to deliver world’s largest NAVTEX solution to Canada’s Extensive Coastline

Danphone is delighted to announce its selection by the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) to spearhead the replacement of Canada’s NAVTEX equipment. This contract represents a significant milestone for Danphone, underscoring the trust and confidence placed in our products by a professional agency such as the CCG. This aims to ensure maritime safety along the world’s longest coastline.
Since 1988, the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) has been mandated for ships globally by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS). NAVTEX, an integral component of GMDSS, provides automated broadcasts of navigational warnings, weather forecasts, and urgent maritime safety information to ships. Canada, a signatory to the SOLAS convention, relies on NAVTEX to ensure maritime safety and efficient navigation along its extensive and often challenging coastal waters.
Project Goals and Significance
The project, organized and operated by the Canadian Coast Guard, is vital for maintaining the integrity and reliability of maritime safety communications. The existing NAVTEX equipment deployed by CCG has reached the end of its operational life and requires replacement. This replacement will ensure the continuous delivery of crucial maritime safety information, maintaining CCG’s commitment to safeguarding Canada’s maritime domain.
Selection Process and Achievements
Following months of dedicated effort, Danphone’s bid was selected. In December, Andy Reynolds, Mogens Vejling, and Jesper Henriksen from team Danphone visited Canada for a “Proof of Bid” test, a critical phase to demonstrate the compatibility and effectiveness of Danphone’s transmitter with CCG’s existing communications control system. After a complete Technical and Financial Evaluation, Danphone was determined to be the successful bidder.
- “We proudly returned home with great news just in time for Christmas – our solution met all requirements, and Danphone was confirmed as the supplier to deliver to the world’s largest NAVTEX solution to the longest coastline in the world,” said Andy, Co-owner of Danphone.
System and Solution
Danphone will deliver 24 1kW NAVTEX transmitters and 21 Automatic Antenna Tuning Units, engineered for resilience to ensure uninterrupted service. This state-of-the-art equipment will support various critical functions.
Impact and Delivery
This project will not only ensure maritime safety and navigation at Canadian sea areas, but also bolster Danphone’s reputation as a premier provider of maritime safety and communication solutions globally. The first unit was supplied, in the first quarter 2024, with the main delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2024 and final delivery expected in the second quarter of 2025, with installations commencing shortly thereafter.
- “We are extremely glad to contribute to bring focus on Aalborg as a tech capital, proud of our experienced team and honored that a prestigious agency such as CCG has selected Danphone’s products to provide maritime safety information to the world’s largest coastline,” added Andy, Danphone.
