Energy research must respond to China’s market offensives
Hartmut Rauen, Deputy Managing Director of the VDMA, comments on the “Federal Energy Research Report 2024” adopted by the cabinet:
- “The energy research report shows that Germany has a strong research landscape. Federal funding represents a stable pillar for ambitious research for science and companies.”
- “In recent years, we have lost our position and our sovereignty in important energy components. Energy research must therefore respond to market offensives by competitors such as China. Restoring competitiveness for companies and Europe as a production location is imperative.”
- “The now effective 8th Energy Research Programme provides considerable resources to lay the technological foundations for a successful energy transition together with science and industry, which is itself investing heavily.”
- “We continue to criticise the restriction to topics that only contribute to the national perspective of the energy transition. Both keeping technology paths open and the requirement to be competitive in export technologies must be a priority for funded research.”
