Today’s seafarers face many pressures, one of which is time. It can constrain their ability to easily and regularly acquire knowledge relevant to their profession. Video continues to be a powerful medium through which information can be imparted quickly. Marine Media Enterprises (MME) and Steamship Mutual have therefore been working together to produce materials that will fulfil an acknowledged need for short videos on subjects of topical relevance. A library of programmes on a growing range of subjects is now available through the MME Donate & Train scheme.

To support the development of future programmes, Donate & Train is a subscription service. For a modest annual fee per vessel, a subscriber’s seafarers have access to the full content library. These videos can be made available in a variety of ways, including if required, through MME’s Learning Management System.

ESG is currently high on the agenda of any company. A unique feature of the scheme is that 25% of the annual subscription is donated to a charity chosen by the subscriber.

One charity that has already received substantial sponsorship support through the scheme is Kinder Paradise in Accra, Ghana. It provides a vital safe place for vulnerable children and teenagers. Kinder Paradise provides these young people with the opportunity to develop and learn in a caring environment. There they can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their ambitions in rewarding careers that they would otherwise have little or no hope of achieving.

Participation in the scheme therefore enables a subscribing company to meet its ESG objectives in two ways; firstly through the Social element associated with making these materials available to its seafarers, and secondly the charitable donation.
