Gasum, a leading Nordic energy company, has opened its newest gas filling station in Kristiansand municipality marking a significant expansion of the company’s liquefied biogasinfrastructure in Norway. Gasum collaborated with Mjåvann Invest to open the new gas filling station. Gasum offers both compressed and liquefied biogas in line with Gasum’s mission to respond to increasing demand for sustainable fuel alternatives in the region. The station is open to corporate distributors and to the public.

The Kristiansand station is Gasum’s sixth LBG filling station in Norway. Strategically located, it serves logistics companies in the region and facilitates long-haul traffic between Oslo and Kristiansand. Furthermore, Gasum plans to build additional filling stations later during 2024, one of which will be located in Sandnes near Stavanger, thereby taking the initial step in connecting the corridor along the E39 from Kristiansand to Ålesund on the western coast of Norway.

In Kristiansand, Gasum collaborated both with the real estate investment company Mjåvann Invest as landowner and with several logistics companies based in Kristiansand.

“We in the Mjåvann industrial area are very happy and proud that Gasum has established this new filling station at our site in Mjåvann. The availability of biogas makes the area more attractive to everyone with some form of logistical needs. The green shift in the transport sector is moving ahead at full speed, which means this filling station is positive news for the entire southern region,” says Andre Kjetså, General Manager at Mjåvann Industripark AS.

Local logistics company Veøy with Vemund Hansen has invested in biogas-powered trucks and was the pilot customer already during the test filling period.

“We are very pleased that Gasum have opened a biogas filling station at Mjåvann. This will enable us to replace diesel with biogas in order to cut our CO₂ emissions,” says Vemund Hansen, Department Manager at Veøy.

Josdal Transportservice, another local transport company, with Johnny Josdal will receive their first biogas-powered trucks within few months.

Reducing emissions, driving change

Gasum sees a growing interest in biogas among Norwegian transport companies, who recognize biogas as a cost-effective means to reduce emissions and enhance corporate sustainability. The use of biogas significantly lowers greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to Norway’s ambitious goal of reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030.

Furthermore, the adoption of biogas contributes to a up to 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions throughout the fuel life cycle when compared to the use of fossil fuels. Additionally, the utilization of biogas has the potential to enhance local air quality by significantly lowering nitrogen oxides emissions in comparison to conventional fuels.
