Konecranes wins Pioneer of the circular economy award from Finland’s leading share ownership promoter

  • Konecranes chosen from all listed Finnish companies for the prestigious award from the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion
  • Recognition marks second time in three years that Konecranes’ efforts have been rewarded by the Foundation

Konecranes has been named “Pioneer of the Circular Economy” by Finland’s leading foundation for share ownership, Pörssisäätiö, recognition of the company’s longstanding efforts to reduce material consumption and extend the lifecycle of its material handling solutions.

All 129 listed companies in Finland were eligible for the award, with Konecranes advancing to a shortlist of 8 finalists before being chosen by a panel of 6 judges assembled by Pörssisäätiö, the country’s leading non-profit foundation for securities investments and the securities market. President and CEO Anders Svensson accepted the prize at an evening ceremony on January 31.

“Konecranes is an inspiring example of how circular economy principles have been widely integrated into practice in the manufacturing industry, starting from product design. When the circular economy is connected to basic operations, its benefits are also widely scaled,” the panel said in its decision.

“Finland is a competitive market for circular economy innovation, so this recognition is especially meaningful and humbling. Konecranes moves what matters, and how we do this – responsibly and sustainably – gives us a clear advantage in our drive to become the world leader in material handling solutions,” said Konecranes President and CEO Anders Svensson.

“This award from the Foundation will spur us further as we work towards a decarbonized and circular world. Konecranes strives to maximize lifecycle value and eliminate waste with circular solutions throughout the value chain,” said Anniina Virta-Toikka, VP, Sustainability, Konecranes.

The award marks the second time in three years that Konecranes has been recognized by the Foundation. In 2022, Konecranes was named the best Finnish Large Cap company for promoting diversity.
