On Tuesday, 23rd January 2024 , the Cyprus Marine Club (CMC) hosted the Get Together with an interactive presentation from Mr. Dimis Michaelides.

Dimis Michaelides is a magician, whose last show “It’s Magic, but is it Art?” was staged in Nicosia, Limassol and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where the British Theatre Guide awarded him a four star review. Last month he was in Sarajevo, Master of Ceremonies and Moderator at a High Level conference with Ministers from 5 countries that focused on people practices in public service. In his business career, Dimis worked in Paris, Washington DC, Nicosia and around the world as an executive, senior executive or CEO at the World Bank, a chemicals multinational and a life insurance company. He has also served as Faculty member and Board Director at a number universities and organizations in the private and public sector. For the past 25 years Dimis has been working as an author, consultant and keynote speaker specializing in leadership, creativity and innovation.

Dimis’ topic was “Creativity and Change”, a subject which has been at the centre of his executive and consulting career. It was addressed to people who are in some way engaged in changing their organizations and to all those who are confronting the accelerating changes of our times with determination, resolve and an open mind.
He argued that creativity – imagining new things and making them happen – is our best friend in times of big transformations. This is when journeys of imagination, discovery and exploration are more valuable than trying to manage the future with past knowledge and present mindsets. His presentation was interactive and out-of-the ordinary and it included a … touch of magic!
The reception was attended by around 100 guests.
The President of Cyprus Marine Club, Captain Eberhard Koch, in his opening statement, before giving the floor to speaker, shared his contentment about the increasing membership numbers (10 new Corporate only in January 2024). The Club now counts 176 members.

Capt. Koch further thanked the 2024 sponsors for their support as well as Members who are the pillar of the Cyprus Marine Club.
Capt. Koch further reminded about the Club’s next events scheduled for February 27th – a presentation from Mr. Aristos Philis, Founder of KeelX, and then, on March 28th – a presentation from a Shipowner, and Vice President of CUS, Mr George Mouskas.

The enchanting presentation of Mr. Michaelides brought on further fascinating conversations among an enthusiastic audience, who explored interesting topics with our speaker and continued sharing their thoughts during the cocktail reception.
The Cyprus Marine Club is a non-profit organization that embraces and encourages a plethora of maritime industry stakeholders for friendly membership. Ship Owners, Ship Managers, Crew Managers, Service Providers & Suppliers, Agents, Terminal Operators, Legal and Financial and more, come together with a focused effort to promote and celebrate the Cyprus maritime industry and share experiences.
