CSC welcomes EU Parliament condemnation to the escalating threats in the Red Sea

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber welcomes the Resolution adopted by the European Parliament, on 18 January 2024, condemning the recent spate of attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and calling for immediate and concerted EU action to address the threat to maritime security in the region.

The European Parliament’s firm support, reflects the gravity of the situation in the Red Sea and sends a clear message about the importance in safeguarding Shipping, the unjustly victimised seafarers and the sea routes, crucial to international trade.

The Shipping Industry, urgently requires decisive and collective action from all Member States in upholding international maritime law and ensuring the safety of commercial Shipping in crucial waterways linking Europe and Asia, vital for global prosperity.

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber also welcomes China’s call on Friday 19 January 2024 for an end to harassment of vessels in the same region.
