Meet our Speakers of the 1st CSN Cyprus ‘Current Shipping Affairs Debate’ – Philippos Philis, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer – Lemissoler Navigation


Cyprus Shipping News is delighted to announce the speakers of the first CSN Cyprus ‘Current Shipping Affairs Debate’ “Are the challenges of 2024 for shipping up for debate?”.

Philippos Philis, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer – Lemissoler Navigation

Philippos Philis is the founder of Lemissoler and has been Managing Director since its establishment in 1996. He has been appointed as Chairman and CEO of Lemissoler Group since 2009. The Group is active in ship-owning, ship management, ship commercial operations, and chartering, as well as in R&D with a focus on enhancing the ship’s efficiency and decreasing the carbon footprint.

Philippos is the immediate past President of the Board of Directors of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), past President of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), and has been Chairing the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Shipowners’ Employers Association (CySEA) from 2016-2021. He is an elected member of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a member of the DNV GL Cyprus Committee, and a member of the Advisory Committee of the West of England P&I Club. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the Board of Directors of USB Bank.

Philippos graduated from RWTH Aachen in Mechanical Engineering, and he is also a Harvard Business School (HBS) graduate. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the School of Management and Economics of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).


Save the date in your calendar for this promising debate “Are the challenges of 2024 for shipping up for debate?” The shipping industry will be faced with several challenges, in the year ahead with acute interest on the rising cost of fuel, the shortage of labour, the increasing complexity of regulations as well as the threat of cyberattacks. The event will provide a platform for experts to debate these challenges with the participation of the audience hoping for discussion to be an engaging after noon.
