Cyprus successfully re-elected at the International Maritime Organisation Council

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber congratulates the Cyprus Maritime Administration and particularly, the Shipping Deputy Ministry for Cyprus successful re-election as a Member of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council for a further two years, during its General Assembly on Friday, 1 December 2023, in London.

Cyprus has been a Member of the IMO since 1978 and a member of its Council since 1987 and its re-election ever since is a significant achievement reflecting the international maritime community’s continued trust in Cyprus’ as a world’s leading maritime nation.

At the same time, the re-election of Cyprus to the IMO, which is the responsible body for determining the global shipping policy and legislation, is very important as in this way, Cyprus will continue to be able to contribute actively in the drafting of International Shipping policy, to address common challenges and ensure a harmonised approach to maritime regulations, whilstsafeguarding the interests of Cyprus Shipping globally.
