Seatrium to promote Energy Transition and Sustainability through Seatrium Professorship at NUS CDE and Learning Partnership with NUS SCALE

Seatrium Limited (Seatrium) has signed two landmark partnerships – one is an Agreement to establish the Seatrium Professorship at the National University of Singapore (NUS) College of Design and Engineering (NUS CDE), and another is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NUS School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (NUS SCALE) to strengthen the technical and business competencies of Seatrium’s employees through continuous education and training.

These partnerships aim to promote energy transition and sustainability in Singapore, attract leading researchers to the field of offshore and marine, and enhance the skills and knowledge of Seatrium’s workforce as part of its lifelong learning programme.

Seatrium Professorship to boost research efforts

Seatrium Professorship Agreement, comprising Seatrium Professorship and Seatrium Visiting Professorship at NUS CDE, aims to attract top talents in energy transition and sustainability to Singapore to promote knowledge transfer and develop innovative technology and processes, and to boost competitiveness locally. The Agreement outlines several responsibilities, which include establishing infrastructure to facilitate interest in energy transition and sustainability, charting the course for renewable technologies in Singapore, setting up networks to facilitate knowledge exchange, identifying strategic research projects and collaborators, and facilitating technology transfer and training for manpower upgrading and development.

The Seatrium Professorship Agreement was signed by Professor Teo Kie Leong, Acting Dean, NUS CDE, and Mr Aziz Merchant, Executive Vice President, Technology & New Product Development, Seatrium. The Agreement will establish Seatrium Professorship, with a steering committee formed by Seatrium and NUS CDE; and chaired by Professor Richard Liew, Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in NUS CDE.

Mr Christopher Wiernicki, Chairman and CEO of will be the first Seatrium Visiting Professor.

Mr Wiernicki said, “We are living in the early innings of a decade of change driven by digitalisation and the green energy transition. It will reshape our entire industry, disrupting established business models, relationships and operational strategies. The technology driven advances will require new ways of thinking as well as a radically altered skills profile. This initiative from Seatrium and NUS will make a valuable contribution to helping the industry adapt and ready itself to capitalise on the huge potential afforded by a more sustainable industry. Learning Partnership to promote employee upskilling and reskilling

Seatrium’s learning partnership with NUS SCALE is aimed at strengthening the technical and business competencies of its workforce through continuous learning and upgrading. Seatrium and NUS SCALE have agreed to collaborate in areas such as identifying and matching Seatrium’s technical training needs with courses available from NUS’ various disciplines in Science, Engineering, Computing and Business through the signing of a new All-You-Can-Learn (AYCL) MOU.

The AYCL MOU was signed by Associate Professor Tan Woei Wan, Vice Dean, NUS SCALE and Seatrium’s Chief People Officer, Dr Lee Chay Hoon.

Over the next three years, Seatrium will commit a minimum of 500 training days a year for employees to take up various academic and executive programmes with NUS SCALE; the University will also provide four complimentary workshops or Masterclasses a year to eligible Seatrium employees.
