The nominees for the DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) Award 2023

Danish Shipping is once again awarding a prize to a shipping company or individual in the shipping industry who has made a special effort to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion.

On August 17th, Danish Shipping will once again present the DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) Award to a shipping company or individual who has made a significant effort to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion in the shipping industry. This award was first presented last year, and now four nominees have been selected for this year’s prize.

Here are the four nominees for the award:

MOLSLINJEN:

Nominated for their focused efforts to increase the number of female Ordinary Ship´s assistants. From 2020 to 2023, MOLSLINJEN has gone from having three to fifteen female Ordinary Ship´s assistants.

Neele Pawlowski, Clipper:

Nominated for her inspiring dedication to work on diversity, equality, and inclusion, and for being one of the founder of WIS-network (Women in Shipping Denmark). The network has published reports on wages and other conditions for women in shipping.

Trine Hoffmann, A.P. Moller – Maersk:

Nominated for playing a central role in the cultural transformation with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion initiated by A.P. Moller – Maersk. Trine has a special ability to bridge the gap between the sea and land and works towards incorporating the needs, challenges, and desires of seafarers into the organization.

Hafnia:

Nominated for their initiative, ‘Maritime Culture Lab’, where four ships have been selected to sail with a crew consisting of 50 percent women. This initiative aims to gather insights on how to better support women on board ships.

“The four nominees are very different but share the common trait of making a real difference in the industry. Initially, they all deserve congratulations on their nomination and a thank you for improving conditions in various ways in the industry. I admire all four initiatives, and it almost saddens me that we have to choose just one winner,” says Anne W. Trolle, Director of Labor Markets, Recruitment, and Education at Danish Shipping.

The selection process takes into consideration whether the nominated person or company has brought about change either in the industry or within their own organization in at least one DEI area, such as:

Creating a new initiative in the DEI field by actively using new knowledge or practices in the area.
Actively working to promote a DEI mindset among employees, leaders, and partners, thereby becoming a good corporate ambassador in this field.

Anja Rose, Head of Organizational Performance and Development at Welltec
Dr. Poornima Luthra, Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School
Heidi Heseltine, CEO of Halcyon Recruitment and Founder of the Diversity Study Group.
