The Union of Greek Shipowners warmly welcomes the adoption of the Clean Energy Marine Hubs  Initiative by the Ministerial Summit at Goa.

This is in effect the first global agreement on maritime decarbonisation that involves all pertinent stakeholders, governmental and private, across the maritime-energy value chain, collaborating to unlock the production, transportation and use of low-carbon fuels for all industries, including the shipping sector.

The UGS, which has strongly supported the initiative since its inception, considers that the availability of alternative and fit-for-purpose drop-in fuels will be vital in enabling the existing fleet to decarbonise. CEM Hubs will be essential for the energy transition of the shipping industry as well as for the worldwide transportation and availability of “green” fuels.

“The creation of Clean Energy Marine Hubs will support the production of the necessary safe, alternative fuels and offer all ocean going ships equal access to these fuels. We are only at the beginning of a long voyage. We have a common goal that needs multiple actions. The momentum for this important initiative must not be lost. All the stakeholders involved must actively support it in order to achieve the decarbonisation of global shipping,” the UGS President, Ms. Melina Travlos, stated.
