Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus met today with the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy of Greece


The Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus, Marina Hadjimanolis, met with the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy of Greece, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, today, Thursday, July 13, where they had the opportunity to discuss issues of a bilateral nature, as well as general issues that concern global shipping. Confirming the very close relations and strong ties that connect the two countries, it was decided to further strengthen bilateral relations. In the above context, Varvitsiotis accepted an invitation addressed to him by Marina Hadjimanolis to participate in the ‘Maritime Cyprus 2023’ conference, which will be held in Limassol between October 8 and 11. Furthermore, cooperation was agreed on issues of technical upgrading of the Greek registry as well as maritime spatial planning.

During her visit to Athens, the Deputy Minister held meetings with the shipping and ship-owning community of Greece, highlighting the advantages of Cyprus shipping and the Cyprus registry in particular, while at the same time expressing the will of the Shipping Deputy Ministry to cooperate with the shipping companies and the institutions that represent them to address the challenges facing shipping.

Also, on Tuesday July 11, Mrs. Hadjimanoli attended the first annual Hellenic-American Shipping Gala, where the shipping companies of Greek interests listed on the US stock exchanges were honoured, among them Safe Bulkers, the interests of Polys Hadjioannou. On Wednesday, July 12, she delivered a greeting during the ceremony of awarding the Evkranti Awards, which are awarded annually to maritime personalities, institutions and organisations in Greece.

Finally, a meeting was held with the Board of Directors and the President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vassilis Korkidis, during which matters of common interest were discussed, as well as the perspectives of cooperation for joint actions, especially in matters of education.
