Riga will host an international conference dedicated to the digitalisation of ports

“Digitisation and automation of port processes is an integral part of the daily work of a modern port. Today it is not enough just to fulfil the port’s functions – in order to remain competitive, it is necessary to ensure their efficiency and traceability by implementing sufficient circulation of digital information. Today’s and tomorrow’s challenge in the transport and logistics sector is to maintain and increase its competitiveness. The Freeport of Riga is currently developing its central digital port information system platform, modernizing vessel traffic management system, introducing a geographic information system, an automated and autonomous access management system and other no less crucial elements. The main purpose of those activities is to create a digital infrastructure that would automate the exchange of information related to the movement of cargo between clients, control services – customs and border guards, as well as automated identification of vehicles and persons at the port gates,” commented Ansis Zeltiņš, the Freeport of Riga CEO, emphasizing that digitalisation ensures not only more efficient, but also more environmentally friendly port operation, which is no less important factor nowadays.

The main themes of “Port 4.0. Conference” discussions are improving communication, security and data management, digital twin ports, sea and land traffic management systems, as well as other topics that are currently relevant to the industry. Experts from the ports of Oslo, Hamina-Kotka, Antwerp-Bruges, Esbjerg, Gävle, Bergen, Tallinn, Riga and Rijeka, who will share their experience and discuss future digital prospects, have already confirmed their participation in the conference.

Conference agenda items:

  • How can ports improve communication, security and data management?
