TactoTek receives ISO 14001 Environmental Management System EMS Certification

  • TactoTek’s Environmental Management System , used to manage IMSE technology’s sustainability initiatives, receives ISO 14001 certification
  • ISO 14001 sets out the criteria for implementing an effective environmental management system and guides companies in identifying, managing, and controlling their environmental impacts
  • Sustainability is inherent in IMSE technology, providing TactoTek and its Licensees the ability to affect product sustainability throughout the complete life cycle – from design to recycling

 TactoTek, a Finnish company developing Injection Molded Structural Electronics , has received ISO 14001 certification demonstrating that their headquarters in Oulu, Finland, is aligned to and operating with the best environmental management practices.

ISO 14001 is a global standard for setting out criteria for an Environmental Management System (EMS), providing a framework for measuring and improving the environmental impact of organizations as well as external stakeholders.

Sustainability is inherent in IMSE and an essential part at all levels of TactoTek’s operations. The now-certified Environmental Management System is used to manage TactoTek’s sustainability initiatives according to the identified main environmental aspects:

  • IMSE technology reducing the greenhouse gas emissions in the electronics industry;
  • Engaging and developing ecodesign principles for all lifecycle steps of IMSE;
  • Development of IMSE circular value chain, focusing on sustainable raw materials and efficient recycling methods; and
  • Further reducing the carbon footprint of TactoTek’s own operations.

“Environmental aspects are strongly tied into our company value as a whole, and they are present in our day-to-day activities. Our Environmental Management System sets a framework for managing our work contributing to the green transition – not limited to our own footprint, but especially to our handprint. TactoTek and our Licensees can significantly reduce the 2nd and 3rd party greenhouse gas emissions with IMSE”, said Katriina Otsamo, Executive Vice President of Finance and Sustainability at TactoTek.

TactoTek’s Environmental Management System was audited and certified by DNV, one of the world’s leading certification, assurance, and risk management providers. At the same time, a surveillance audit for TactoTek’s ISO 9001 certified quality management system was conducted.

“I was satisfied to see how sustainability-related aspects are part of all lifecycle phases of IMSE products, starting from design all the way to the recycling of the IMSE products as this is one of the key requirements in ISO 14001:2015 standard”, comments Heikki Lahtinen, Lead Auditor & DNV Team Leader.

The now-received ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification complements and supports TactoTek’s ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System.
