Pyxis Ocean with WingWings nominated for Nor-Shipping’s Next Generation Ship Award 2023
The Pyxis Ocean, which will soon be equipped with the BAR Tech WindWings by Yara Marine, has been nominated for Nor-Shipping’s prestigious Next Generation Ship Award.
This groundbreaking vessel, owned by Mitsubishi Corporation’s shipping arm and chartered by Cargill, is one of four finalists recognized for demonstrating innovation, sustainability, and efficiency in their design and operation.
The Pyxis Ocean will be equipped with two WindWings, one of which is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 CHEK project. The CHEK project focuses on developing new technologies that improve the efficiency of shipping to cut emissions.
We’re currently in the process of constructing the Wings, and after installing them on the Pyxis Ocean this summer, we estimate that each Wing will provide c1.5 tonnes of fuel savings each day on average global routes with no speed reduction.
The winner will be announced at Oslo City Hall on June 5 as part of Nor-Shipping 2023.
