Valenciaport the green intelligent and innovative hub of the Mediterranean

The Port Authority of Valencia will present at Eco Mobility Expo its projects to become an emission neutral port by 2030

It will explain the infrastructures and services which position it as a strategic ally of industry and a pole of attraction for investment for the Valencia Region

Clean energy, railways, digitalisation, sustainable infrastructures or innovation are some of the actions that the Port Authority of Valencia  is carrying out within the framework of its objective Valenciaport 2030, zero emissions. The aim is to position itself as the green, intelligent and innovative hub of the Mediterranean. This project will be presented at the Eco Mobility Expo to be held between 21 and 23 March at Feria València, a meeting that will bring together the entire value chain of the mobility of goods and people to share trends and experiences in the sector.

At this international event, the PAV will present its projects to become an emission neutral port by 2030 and will explain the infrastructures and services that position Valenciaport as a strategic ally of industry and a pole of attraction for investment in the Valencia Region. The PAV will have its own stand in Hall 5 level 1, next to the Valenciaport Foundation, presided over by an image 6 metres wide by 3 metres high with a recreation of the Port of Valencia of the future with all the projects it is carrying out to position itself as the green, intelligent and innovative hub of the Mediterranean.

Experts from the environmental area of the PAV and the Valenciaport Foundation will participate in different panels at the Eco Mobility Expo where they will explain the initiatives and services in terms of decarbonisation and sustainable infrastructures that the Valencian port is carrying out.

Real projects for a green Port

The fight against climate change and decarbonisation is an unrenounceable goal for Valenciaport and this is what it committed itself to 20 years ahead of the European Green Pact to be an emissions neutral precinct. And it is doing so with a plan that is materialised in actions that are already being implemented. In the last few months, the PAV has approved three photovoltaic installations, one in Gandia to make it the first self-sufficient port in Europe and two in the Port of Valencia which will enable 14% of electricity consumption to be generated.

The Valencian site already has the first hydrogen plant loaded with this fuel of the ‘future’. It is the only installation capable of supplying the needs of the terminals through the fixed tank that stores this fuel and the mobile hydrogen generator, which will be responsible for travelling to the MSC and Grimaldi terminals to supply hydrogen to the two prototypes of port machinery where this clean fuel is going to be tested.

These are real examples of Valenciaport’s commitment to clean energy. And progress is being made in other actions such as the construction of two electrical substations so that ships docking in Valencia can be connected to the electricity grid, the use of alternative fuels such as Liquefied Natural Gas, wind turbines, the replacement of the PAV’s fleet of vehicles with hybrids and electric vehicles, or projects related to improving energy efficiency, such as changes in lighting.

In addition to the aforementioned proposals, Valenciaport is making an important bet on the construction and improvement of railway connections with an investment of 240 million Euro in the coming years. The aim is to increase the importance of the railway in freight transport. In addition to this, new infrastructures such as the public passenger terminal or the northern container terminal will be added.

These actions reinforce Valenciaport’s strategic position as a Mediterranean hub that favours the attraction of investment in sectors as diverse as logistics, industry and innovation, attracting talent and generating an entrepreneurial ecosystem around it.
