DSME wins order for two LNG carriers from Greek client for highest price ever

An LNG carrier built by DSME

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) announced on March 14 that it has won an order for two LNG carriers from Maran Gas Maritime, a subsidiary of the Angelicoussis Group, which is Greece’s largest shipping company. The order is worth US$512.5 million (approximately 679.4 billion won).

The order amount per ship is US$256.25 million, which is the highest ever for a 170,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier. The vessel will be built at Okpo Shipyard in Korea and delivered to the client in the first half of 2027.

The Angelicoussis Group has placed orders for 121 vessels since inking its first contract with DSME in 1994. This is the largest record based on the number of orders placed between a single shipping company and a shipbuilder. In particular, since 2021, DSME has received orders for 11 LNG carriers which have high added value from the Angelicoussis Group.

DSME has secured work for a total of four ships (worth $800 million), including three LNG carriers and one depot maintenance this year, reaching 11.5 percent of its order target of US$6.98 billion.
