SSY partners with ST Shipping for charity donation

Simpson Spence Young – the world’s largest independent shipbroker – and Glencore’s ST Shipping & Transport have joined forces to donate a substantial commission to the Mercy Ships foundation.

Founded in 1978, Mercy Ships delivers much needed, free healthcare to many of the world’s poorest countries via its network of hospital ships, working in more than 55 countries and providing medical services valued at more than £1.3 billion

SSY’s relationship with Mercy Ships began in 2022 through Rupert Lawson and the SSY Tanker division donating to the international charity. The latest donation has originated from SSY’s LNG desk, marking the first donation to the charity on the back of an LNG shipping transaction which also included SEFE Energy as the ship owner for the charter.

Speaking on today’s announcement, Toby Dunipace, SSY’s Managing Director of LNG comments: “I’m delighted that both ST Shipping and SSY’s LNG desk have been able to contribute to this very worthwhile charity. An LNG shipping contribution to Mercy Ships is a new initiative and we are very happy to support such a good cause. Through the work that they do, Mercy Ships have literally changed thousands of lives for the better so to be able to help in this small way is an honour in itself.”

Also speaking on the donation, Alex Budiev at ST Shipping comments: “We are proud to be part of the great initiative while encouraging more participants from the LNG market to get involved this year.”
