Associated British Ports’ long serving Dock Master Humber and Harbour Master Mark Collier has been recognised in an industry award.

Mark, who has worked in the region for 20 years, received the UK Ports Harbour Master of the Year 2022 title at an awards ceremony in Canary Wharf, London. He was one of over 200 nominated for the award. The awards panel was led by Bill Anderson, and other key trade associations and professional marine bodies.

Simon Bird, Regional Director of the Humber ports said: “This is such a great accolade for Mark, and I’m delighted he won it, and it came to the Humber.

He’s been in this job for such a long time and loves the role. He is very dedicated and knowledgeable and is a worthy winner.”

Mark added, “It was such a big surprise to win, but I want to emphasise it’s a team effort. Everyone’s name in the Humber is on this award, which means a lot as it means we are doing something right.

“It’s humbling to receive such an endorsement from our customers and industry who voted for me and thank you to the panel of judges for selecting me.”

Hull born Mark began his career in marine in 1987 serving first as Fisheries Officer in the Falkland Islands, before progressing to Assistant Port Manager. He returned to the UK in 2001 and then applied for a job as Berthing Master with ABP in 2003, before progressing to Dock Master.

In the last 20 years he says the industry has changed but welfare and safety have vastly improved.
