Hyundai Heavy Industries Group changed its name to HD Hyundai and presented a new vision in a ceremony held to mark its 50th anniversary on Dec. 26.

The group disclosed a new mission — “Pioneering the future of mankind through innovation that lead the times and constant challenges.” In addition, it presented three core business visions to realize this mission.

The Shipbuilding & Marine Division adopted “the realization of the unlimited potential of the sea” as its new vision, the Energy Division “the creation of a sustainable future energy ecosystem” and the Industrial Machinery Division “the provision of industrial solutions that defy time and spatial limitations

“Today is the day our group starts a new life under the new name HD Hyundai,” said Kwon Oh-gap, chairman of HD Hyundai, in a commemorative speech during the ceremony. “While the past 50 years were a glorious period during which we contributed to Korea’s economic growth, the 50 years to come will be a new chapter in our history marked by innovation and creation where technology, the environment and digital converge.”

HD Hyundai regards 1972 as the year the group’s history began. In that year, ground was broken for Hyundai Ulsan Shipyard. It was separated from Hyundai Group in 2002 and became Hyundai Heavy Industries Group.
