The “Zeus-1” drilling operations are successfully completed, within Block 6 of the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus

The Cyprus Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry announces that the work of the “Zeus-1” exploratory well has been successfully and safely completed, within Block 6 of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, by the joint venture of Eni Cyprus Limited (Operator) and TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V.

The drilling, which was carried out by the drilling ship “Tungsten Explorer” at a distance of 162 kilometers from the coast of Cyprus, 5 kilometers west of the “Cronos-1” drilling and at a water depth of 2,300 meters, demonstrated the existence of a column of pure natural gas 105 meters, with quantities that, according to preliminary estimates, amount to a total of 2 to 3 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).

The “Zeus-1” discovery, the third in a row by the licensed consortium in Block 6, after “Calypso-1” and “Cronos-1”, has also been successfully tested in terms of its quality technical characteristics and confirms again the promising prospects of the region. Already, the Ministry of Energy and a consortium are considering the ways to accelerate and optimally utilize the discoveries in Block 6 of the EEZ of Cyprus, with the results of the new drilling being integrated, by Eni and TotalEnergies, in the studies they are conducting for this very purpose.
