“Let’s DISCO” campaign – Organisation of information gatherings to promote maritime studies and professions

The Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry announces the organisation of Information Gatherings in all the provinces of Cyprus, which are aimed at secondary school students, parents and teachers with the aim of providing holistic information on all matters related to the shipping industry and especially study options and employment prospects in sector.

The gatherings fall within the framework of the new campaign “Let’s DISCO” (Dive Into Shipping Career Opportunities of the Shipping Deputy Ministry, within the framework of the Committee for the Development of Maritime Culture and the Promotion of Maritime and Maritime Studies and Professions recently created by the Shipping Deputy Ministry, and which consists of entire shipping industry.

For the needs of the new campaign, a 16-member Mentoring Team was created of young scientists active in all aspects of Shipping, whose members come from various academic backgrounds, with the aim of highlighting the multidimensional character of Shipping.

The members of the Guidance Group, as part of the “Let’s DISCO” Campaign, will inform and provide useful advice to students and parents through their own experiences. For this purpose, a relevant information sheet was prepared, which was already distributed to every high school student, with the personal contact information of all the members of the Guidance Team. Students, in addition to the information gatherings, will be able to be informed at any time by the members of the Guidance Team, by contacting them directly.

This effort is supported by all the bodies that make up the maritime community of Cyprus, Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Cyprus Shipowners’ Association, Maritime and Maritime Institute (CMMI) as well as YoungShip and WISTA Organisations. The organisation of the gatherings is organised with the support and cooperation of the Vocational Education Advisory Service of the Ministry of Education and the Cyprus Youth Organisation.
