As one of the few terminals in the world which can handle mega vessels with capacity up to 214,000 DWT, CMIT continues receiving trust of the biggest shipping line MSC to accommodate the m/v MSC DITTE 200,148 DWT from September 24, 2022. This is largest container vessel deployed by MSC to ever call in Vietnam.

M/v MSC DITTE with capacity of approximately 20,000 TEUs is operated on the Pearl service of the 2M Alliance connecting Vietnam with the US West Coast. With an average crane productivity of nearly 32 containers/hour/crane and 23-row outreach, CMIT has successfully handled almost 16,000 TEUs of import, export, transshipment and empty containers and keep her journey timely after only 54 hours port stay.

That mega container ships such as the M/v MSC DITTE successfully handled at CMIT and increasing calls of this vessel size at CMIT recently not only affirms the world class operation capability but also demonstrates good management and great coordination of the authority agencies, Ministry of Transport, Vinamarine, Vung Tau Port Authority, Pilot, Tugboat,…And this is also one of the key indicators to help Cai Mep being ranked at the Top 11 most efficient container ports in 2021 in the world, announced by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-water port is categorized as special port cluster according to the master plan of Vietnam’s seaport system in the 2021-2030 period, vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1579 /QD-TTg on September 22, 2021. In August 2022, Ministry of Transport also approved a total investment of over USD 60 billion from the state budget for the project to upgrade the CM-TV channel and the MONRE has also approved the Environmental Impact Assessment report of the project. The project will be started by the end of this year at the earliest or early next year at the latest. After completing the project, the access channel to CMIT will reach a minimum depth of 15.5m with a 350m width and this will create greater conditions for CMIT in particular and Cai Mep in general to continue conquering larger vessels and enhance the position of Cai Mep deep-water port on the world maritime map.
