MCTC organised a beach cleaning on World Maritime’s Day

The shipping industry is set to come together for World Maritime Day with this year’s theme on New Technologies for a Greener Future. Our worldwide offices will be marking the occasion in different ways: our team in Cyprus, for instance, will be taking ‘cleaning of the environment’ into their own hands by organising a beach clean-up coordinated by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association

Here at MCTC, we always have sustainability at the forefront of our minds, and we are running several initiatives to promote sustainability with the vessels we work with. We believe education is the key to achieving sustainability.

Over the past few months, we have been running a campaign to encourage a sustainable food supply chain. We are working with all vessels under our catering management to educate vessel managers and seafarers on the indirect emissions that arise from food production by providing them with a basic understanding through visual materials.

Almost 26% of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) in the atmosphere are emitted as a by-product of food production, either during the manufacturing stage or during transportation, with CO2 being the most notable contributor.
We have been providing individual vessels with an estimate of how much GHG is produced by consuming certain products. It is hoped that, by providing this information, vessels will make more environmentally friendly choices when picking their food supplies.
