Raytheon Anschütz, a business of Raytheon Technologies, introduced functional enhancements to the Radar NX application to meet the specific navigational, operational and environmental requirements of research and offshore vessels.

A navigational radar application, Radar NX, with its human-centered design, provides high-performance collision avoidance assistance under the most challenging weather and traffic situations.

“Vessels operating under the harshest conditions often not only need a precise radar system for collision avoidance, but also require radar targeting or even raw radar video for other applications,” said Jan Lütt, product manager at Raytheon Anschütz. “Our radar system now simplifies the integration of oil spill detection systems, ice radars and wave or weather radars.”

New to the market, the Asterix server converts the radar video to the Asterix CAT-240 standard, allowing high-fidelity radar information sharing with third-party displays and trackers. Crews on board receive more information to fully assess the situation and optimize their decision-making processes to ensure the safety of the ship and the environment.

Like the navigational radar, the third-party applications can also use a seamless 360° radar video that overcomes blind spots created by superstructures like cranes, helicopter pads and funnels. The radar video merge function combines video streams using a consistent common reference point, performs enhanced paraxial error correction and synchronizes pulses. The newly created 360° radar video integrates into the network as a virtual radar transceiver.

“Combining these technologies with our unique clutter suppression and our powerful tracking algorithms, we deliver the crew with what is probably the best radar information available today,” said Lütt.

The enhancements also include radar planning stations at remote locations, such as research laboratories or stations and configurations with mother ships and tender boats. Simply by adding a JSON web socket control solution to a workstation and a client to the network, users have display and remote control of a radar PPI without disturbing bridge operations.

Radar NX stands out with offers further advanced features, including patented technologies for optimized target detection, filtering and presentation, and a systemwide target management and target association.
