EST-Floattech appoints Mark Witjens as new CEO and Joep Gorgels as new CFO/CBDO

– EST-Floattech has appointed Mark Witjens as Chief Executive Officer and Joep Gorgels as Chief Financial Officer/Chief Business Development Officer . With these appointments, the company that develops intelligent energy storage systems is preparing for further international growth and the roll-out of the new product: the Octopus Series.
Since its foundation in 2009, the company has grown continuously and is one of the leading suppliers of battery systems in the maritime sector. EST-Floattech has a track record of over 200 projects and a growing number of recurring customers. Recently, the first successes have also been achieved by its Hamburg office, which opened in August 2021. With the arrival of Witjens and Gorgels, who will be working from the headquarters in Badhoevedorp, the Netherlands, the company is reinforcing its growth ambition.
Mark Witjens has been appointed as the new CEO of EST-Floattech and has previously worked for Damen Shipyards Group. Among others, he worked as Managing Director of several yards within Damen Shiprepair & Conversion and Director Projects at Damen Cruise RoPax & Offshore. With more than 20 years of experience in the maritime industry, he brings valuable insights to EST-Floattech. Witjens: “EST-Floattech is one of the market leaders in the development and supply of energy storage systems for the maritime sector. The in-depth knowledge and vast experience of the company’s workforce is a key differentiator and supports and accelerates current ambitions in the shipping industry to reduce emissions.”
Joep Gorgels has been appointed as the new CFO/CBDO. Gorgels graduated in chemical engineering. He previously worked as Global Head Transportation & Logistics in shipping at ABN AMRO Bank where he was responsible for all customers worldwide. Gorgels: “I am thrilled to join EST-Floattech and excited to accelerate the growth and development ambitions of the company. The maritime sector needs to invest in the electrification of ships for which EST-Floattech provides robust, certified solutions.” Gorgels will focus on the financial and business development activities of EST-Floattech.
Witjens and Gorgels succeed Hans Visser, who will hand over his responsibilities as CEO in the coming weeks. EST-Floattech is grateful to Visser for his contribution to the development of the company in recent years. Witjens and Gorgels look forward to work on the transition to zero-emission shipping.
