Ecochlor volunteers clean Oceanfront in Norwalk

The Ecochlor team of volunteers stormed a one-mile stretch along Norwalk, Connecticut’s oceanfront on June 8, 2022 to clean up a beach and nearby park in recognition of World Ocean Day.

Working in partnership with the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), Ecochlor had almost a dozen volunteers making an impactful difference near their corporate office in North Haven, Connecticut USA. The team collected more than eight (8) full bags of trash in less than two hours as well as part of a boat, a metal chair and other interesting objects – totaling 107 pounds of trash!

NAMEPA was instrumental in helping Ecochlor coordinate this event with their employees. “Not only did they ramp-up the enthusiasm with our team prior to the event, they worked with the town of Norwalk to set up the site of our clean-up and brought all the gloves, bags and equipment for us to use,” said Kathie Clark, Ecochlor Director of Corporate Communication. “I would recommend this amazing organization to any company that wants to bring together their staff to run an event that will make a meaningful difference in their community!”

World Ocean Day is an international day that takes place annually on 8 June “to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean and to develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the oceans.” The 2022 theme for World Ocean Day was Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.

“Being a part of the NAMEPA efforts to support World Ocean Day was a tremendous experience,” said Pete Thompson, V.P. of Operations at Ecochlor.  “Cleaning our oceans is certainly not a small task so being able to be a part of a global effort was both rewarding personally and professionally. The volume of material collected in a short time and within a small location brings to light the extent of the global issue.”
