Revd John Attenborough is also the new Chaplain for MtS Cyprus, where this role will be based.

The Mission to Seafarers announces the appointment of the Revd John Attenborough as the new Regional Director for the Middle East and South Asia Region, and Chaplain for MtS Cyprus, where this role will be based. John is amongst MtS’ most experienced port chaplains, and has served with distinction in Mombasa, Antwerp, Tilbury and Medway, and most recently, in Southampton. Throughout his ministry, John has demonstrated a strong commitment to seafarers’ welfare, as well as building and leading dynamic volunteer teams. It is anticipated that John and his family will move to Cyprus in August and commence his new post from September.

The Revd Canon Andrew Wright, Secretary General of The Mission to Seafarers welcomed John to his role, saying: “I am excited about John’s appointment. He brings a long experience of seafarers’ welfare and a deep and broad knowledge of our work. He joins the MESA Region at a very important moment. The Region has a diverse team, and the planned strategy is ground-breaking and innovative. We know that John will bring abundant skills and a strong passion for seafarers’ welfare as we seek to develop our work across the region. We very warmly welcome him.”

The region provides a variety of chaplaincy services which respond to the needs of seafarers, their families, and the many occasions of seafarer abuses. I look forward to working with chaplaincies, governments, and the maritime industry to ensure seafarers visiting ports across this region are properly supported and cared for.”
