Award ceremony of the student competition with the theme: «The Comparative Advantages of Cypriot Shipping in Relation to Competition – WE SAIL THE FLAG»


The Award Ceremony of the Student Research Competition with the theme: “The Comparative Advantages of Cyprus Shipping in Relation to Competition – WE SAIL THE FLAG” was crowned with great success, which took place on Thursday, May 19, 2022, in the Reception Hall of the Of Culture, Sports and Youth.

The aim of the competition was to create links between students with shipping, to inform them about the shipping sector and its importance for the Cyprus economy and society, to encourage them to research, to develop creative and critical thinking, and the development of teamwork skills.

As part of the event, a total of three prizes were awarded, offered by Salamis Cruises, and € 500, € 300 and € 200 respectively were given. The first was secured by the First Technical and Vocational School of Education and Training of Limassol, the second prize was received by the Lyceum of Agias Fylaxeos and the third by the Third Technical and Vocational School of Education and Training of Limassol.

Among others, the ceremony was honored by the presence of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Mr. Prodromos Prodromou, the Shipping Deputy Minister Mr. Vassilios Demetriades, representatives of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, representatives of companies and organisations of Shipping industry.

The Shipping Deputy Minister stressed the importance of shipping and the blue economy, especially for Cyprus as an island state. He stressed the need for children to know about shipping and said that there is cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Shipping Deputy Ministry to organise a large number of activities to inform students, with the aim that children love it and follow it by choice. Finally, Mr. Demetriades referred to the fact that shipping is an area that opens professional horizons.

The ceremony ended with the awarding of diplomas to the distinguished students and teachers.
