Cyprus the Only EU Member State with 100% 5G population coverage

Cyta’s 5G network was completed on Monday, at an event held in the village of Sykopetra in the Limassol district, making Cyprus the only EU member state with 100% population coverage.

Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Kyriacos Kokkinos praised Cyta’s initiative, highlighting that this brings the Goverment’s diigital transformation plans a step closer to completion.

The event was also attended by the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities Costas Champiaouris and Cyta officials.

Champiaouris said that Cyta is one of the pillars behind the development and technological upgrade in the communities of mountainous areas. The head of Sykopetra’s community authority reitereated the importance of Cyta’s role in  the progress of remote villages.

On his part, Cyta’s Chair Andreas Neocleous said that no other country in the EU has 5G coverage for its entire population and referred to the telecom provider’s two major goals: offer to the villages what it offers to the cities and combat urbanization by attracting more people to the mountainous areas.
