
In the framework of the Long-Term National Strategy for the Cyprus Shipping “SEA Change 2030” (www.cyshippingstrategy.com) which includes specific actions to address cyber threats in the field of shipping, the Shipping Deputy Minister to the President Mr. Vassilis Dimitriadis and Communications Commissioner Mr. George Michailidis signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at the Shipping Deputy Ministry.
The Memorandum of Cooperation confirms the mutual will of the Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Digital Security Authority to establish cooperation between them and defines the framework of this cooperation to address cyber threats in the field of shipping.
In particular, the relevant cooperation aims to create a framework for the provision of education and training on cybersecurity issues with the support of the Digital Security Authority and in cooperation with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the European Cyber Security Agency (ENISA).
This collaboration also aims to effectively address the challenges and risks posed by the digital transformation of the shipping industry by providing guidance and protection against cyber threats and attacks, in collaboration with the Digital Security Authority.
According to the Memorandum of Cooperation, Shipping Deputy Ministry and Digital Security Authority will cooperate at four levels / sectors which include the exchange of information, operational cooperation, cooperation in the implementation of crisis management plans and the provision of technical support.
