Global maritime and industry leading training course provider Stream Marine Training has launched a new set of training packages for entrants into the renewables industry. The courses have been approved by the Global Wind Organisation .

The UK-based company, which holds its training facility at Glasgow Airport, is delighted to offer an extensive course catalogue that will now include training in the renewables and offshore industries.

Along with the GWO courses, the company is also launching Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) emergency response training for both team members and team leaders. The OPITO courses BOSIET (basic offshore safety induction and emergency training) and FOET (further offshore emergency training) are currently in development.

SMT is the UK’s largest short course maritime provider and has been at the forefront of maritime training since its inception in 2014, beginning with basic STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) courses. Since then, it has expanded to three sites and, recently, installed a GWO training tower for its working at height and advanced rescue training courses

The UK Government has committed to achieving ‘net zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050, and SMT has also pledged to achieve this and is therefore deeply passionate about providing the best training for future energy sources.

The approved GWO Onshore Basic Safety Training (BST) provides delegates with important skills, which include Fire Awareness, First Aid, Working at Heights, and Manual Handling. To enable delegates to work in the offshore environment, an additional GWO Sea Survival training would need to be completed.

Upon completion delegates will possess an awareness of the hazards encountered when working within the wind industry and how to control and mitigate these hazards.

The BST will also equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to appropriately respond in the event of an emergency and to increase their safety through proper use of Personal Protective Equipment, emergency equipment and procedures.
