Scandlines offers free of charge passage to Ukrainian refugees

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has major human consequences. Scandlines wants to show its unequivocal support to the Ukrainian people and is therefore offering Ukrainian refugees free transport from Germany to Denmark on the company’s ferries.

Scandlines follows the situation in Ukraine closely and, being part of the critical infrastructure, does everything in its power to guarantee regular transport across the Baltic Sea. This also applies to transportation of people in need who wish to get away from the war in Ukraine.

Upon arrival at one of Scandlines’ two German ports, Rostock and Puttgarden, Ukrainian refugees can travel free of charge with Scandlines to Gedser and Rødby respectively by presenting a Ukrainian passport. This applies to both land passengers and cars. Every passenger in the car, with the exception of the driver, simply needs to present a valid Ukrainian passport.

“We follow the tense situation in Ukraine closely and are prepared for the possibility that Ukrainian refugees may need to cross the blue border from Germany to Denmark. We will happily transport passengers who are able to present a Ukrainian passport free of charge – that is Scandlines’ contribution in this unfortunate situation,” says Scandlines CEO Carsten Nørland.

However, Scandlines points out that it is the responsibility of the Danish authorities to control whether foreigners are allowed to enter Denmark and therefore encourages all passengers to check the travel regulations.
