The Cyprus Shipping Chamber held its Monthly Members’ Meeting on March 24 in Limassol, during which Dr. Nikolas Mastrogiannopoulos, Chief Research & Innovation Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus, President of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) and Mr. Theodoros Loukaidis, General Manager of RIF, presented the new European Union funding programs for of Technological Development and Innovation in Cyprus.

The presentation focused on funding opportunities related to the Shipping sector and are offered through the upcoming National Research and Innovation programs and are provided through the Research & Innovation Foundation.

Also, funding opportunities for Shipping, according to Dr. Mastrogiannopoulos, also opens the European financial program “Horizon Europe”. “Horizon Europe” is an ambitious EU funding program for R&I activities, through which it seeks to promote new innovative ideas that will lead to revolutionary technologies and innovations to meet modern challenges.

The Shipping Industry supports the significant efforts of RIF to cultivate a culture of Research and Innovation in Cyprus, especially in view of its significant efforts for the Green Transformation of Shipping, which can only be achieved by finding and satisfactory new safe fuel alternatives and technological alternatives for ships.
