A&P Falmouth hosted its inaugural ‘Apprenticeship Careers Event’ on Thursday March 3, 2022 at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, and is now welcoming applications for a range of apprentice vacancies.

The evening, which was a resounding success with more than 100 people in attendance, gave young hopefuls the chance to explore each department and meet A&P’s directors, managers and current apprentices.

The new apprenticeship programme launched in February to support the recruitment and development of the next generation of engineers, project managers and support staff.

A&P Falmouth, part of the A&P Group, is looking to recruit fresh talent to its business within the next few months, having recently welcomed ten new apprentices to its workforce.

The application window for new apprentices will remain open until Wednesday, March 23rd.

The new programme will offer a wealth of opportunities for young and adult apprentices across Marine Engineering, Machining, Steel & Pipe Fabrication, Health, Safety Environment and Quality, Finance, Procurement and Port Operations.

It offers a pathway for candidates aged 16 and over with a range of exciting extra curricular activities including; Tall Ship Sailing, Gig Rowing, and community engagement activities.

Steve Jones, Managing Director Operations and Site Director at A&P Falmouth, said: “Apprentices form an integral part of our business and are much valued members of our workforce. As importantly, they also have a huge part to play in securing the future of our business and in tackling the engineering challenges of tomorrow.

“However, we also recognise that it is important to offer a wide range of training and extra curricular experiences, which is why we have extended our apprenticeship programme to offer new activities in order to be a sustainable alternative to a university degree.”

A&P Group has recruited hundreds of apprentices since its inception, all of whom have begun successful careers in engineering, welding, procurement, finance and health and safety.

All trainees who successfully complete their apprenticeship are offered permanent full-time employment and have the opportunity to gain further qualifications and progress their careers with A&P Group.

“It is a fact that in Falmouth, 70% of the facility’s management, supervisors and technical staff started out as apprentices.

“Our management team is committed to building a sustainable future for A&P and our apprentices will play a significant role in developing our business in the future.”

In the last few months, ten new apprentices have already begun work on high-level engineering projects at the facility in Falmouth and are attending Cornwall College one day a week
