BV first in class for Dual Fuel VLCC

Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification has supported the design, construction and entry into operation of the 300,000 dwt oil tanker, ‘Eagle Valence’, now delivered as scheduled by shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

Bureau Veritas has welcomed into class the ‘Eagle Valence’, its first dual fueled very large crude carrier . BV supported the project from its inception providing full plan approval and design support and new construction supervision. BV is now classing the ship as it commences its operational life on charter to TotalEnergies for shipowner AET.

Constructed at Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SHI) in Korea the 329.9m long ‘Eagle Valence’ is powered by a WinGD 7x82DF engine capable of burning LNG as fuel supplied by two 3,750 M³ capacity Type ‘C’ LNG tanks located on deck, forward of the accommodation block.

We are delighted to be classing our first VLCC to be fueled by LNG. We have been able to share our deep and extensive experience in gas as a marine fuel, supporting the yard, owners and charterers from initial specification and into operation.

Delivered to TotalEnergies for her long term employment the vessel supports the drive to reduce carbon emissions from the world’s tanker fleet and reducing harmful local air emissions – sulphur by 99% and Nox by 85%, as well as reducing GHG emissions by around 23% on a well to wake basis.
