SnakeWays introduces the SnakeCrew Internet Service

SnakeCrew joins the growing list of innovative ship-to-shore communication management services offered by the highly experienced SnakeWays team.

SnakeWays  is pleased to announce the release of SnakeCrew, a cloud based internet access management service for crew and passengers on board ship.

Like all SnakeWays services, SnakeCrew comes as an independent software module hosted on the shipboard SnakeBox. SnakeCrew can be deployed as a standalone solution or as part of a suite of SnakeWays services. Crew members can access the service using the existing shipboard networks or by using any Wi-Fi enabled device. The Captain has access to monitoring and management tools through a specially designed web interface. Shore based personnel can also monitor the service through the SnakeCloud portal.

SnakeCrew dovetails perfectly with SnakeWall, SnakeWays’ intelligent firewall service, and with SnakeSwitch, the smart shipboard router. Combining SnakeCrew with SnakeWall provides the Captain and the shipowner full control of the service. Adding SnakeSwitch allows the SnakeCrew service to be offered across multiple satellite and terrestrial connections.

SnakeCrew is compatible with the full range of maritime communication networks from a simple Inmarsat Fleet One or Iridium Certus 200 through offshore GSM to the very latest in VSAT services. SnakeCrew can be dedicated to a specific WAN service for independence and security or, in conjunction with SnakeSwitch, can operate across multiple WAN circuits.

SnakeCrew is a completely fresh approach to providing valuable crew members with a managed internet service whilst on board,” according to Peter Schulze, CEO of SnakeWays GmbH. “In developing SnakeCrew we started with a clean sheet . Our target throughout was to simplify access, not only for the crew member but also for those like the Captain that need to manage the service. At the same time we needed to ensure we incorporated all the key features that a multi-user service like this needs in what can be a very complex environment.

The other key objective was to keep the implementation and running costs to an absolute minimum. As with many of the SnakeWays services, there is no up-front cost for implementation, the service can be installed and activated remotely. Distributed under the SaaS model the monthly service fees are extremely competitive, particularly when combined with other SnakeWays services such as SnakeMail and SnakeWall.”
