MarCoPay recognised with Nikkei Business Daily Award at 2021 Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards

MarCoPay, the financial platform for seafarers operated by MarCoPay, and funded by NYK and other partner companies, has been recognized with the Nikkei Business Daily Award, the second highest award, at the 2021 Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards. An awards ceremony was held at The Okura Tokyo on February 2.
The Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards is a historic annual awards ceremony sponsored by Nikkei, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2021. Outstanding new products and services featured in various Nikkei media platforms are recognized. In 2021, 35 products and services were selected, including 16 products and services for the highest award. The selected products and services were those that brought drastic changes to functions and performances of conventional devices and services by utilizing AI, and those that well grasped the consumers’ new needs during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Tomoyuki Koyama, senior managing executive officer of NYK, attended the ceremony together with others from NYK and accepted the award. MarCoPay was highly evaluated for its efforts to tackle social issues that seafarers are facing — e.g., introducing a mobile application for digital salary payments that used to be paid in cash to vessel seafarers, expanding services for money transfers to seafarer family members during voyages as well as foreign money transfers, and introducing loan and insurance options with superior conditions for home and vehicles purchases.
