Launching this week, Waypoint 3: Maritime Risk will work with and support tech companies developing the next generation of maritime risk solutions.

In a launch webinar held recently, senior experts and practitioners in maritime shared their views of the biggest gaps in managing maritime risk, and detailed where cutting edge innovation could have the most impact in the near term.

They highlighted areas such as data fragmentation problems, the misdeclaration of cargo, and elimination of human risk through technologies – such as drones and robots – as some of the areas with the biggest near-term opportunities for digital entrepreneurs in maritime.

Dr. Maurizio Pilu, Managing Director at Safetytech Accelerator, had this to say about the launch of the new programme:

“We are delighted to launch our third Waypoint programme which we believe is unique in terms of supporting early-stage technology business to access the complex maritime market. We look forward to working with select tech companies and industry mentors to help solve some of the biggest problems in maritime risk.” 

Bosiljka Kozomara, Chief Commercial Officer at Scoutbase, current participant in Waypoint, encouraged startups to apply to the programme:

“We are very pleased with our engagement with the Safetytech Accelerator’s Waypoint programme, and with what we have achieved in such a short period of time. In an industry where there are many challenges, and a great need for innovation and change, there is much value in doing things together. Startups can bring excellent innovation and tech, but only when partnered with maritime expertise and access to market can we drive real change.”

Corporate partners and early-stage tech businesses are being invited to apply, either as mentors or as participants in the acceleration programme.
