February 9, 2022

FSUE Atomflot signed a contract for the creation of the Unified Platform for Digital Services of the Northern Sea Route (EPPCS NSR). The executor of the work is JSC “Greenatom”.

“The digitalization of the Northern Sea Route is a key stage in preparing for the transition to year-round navigation in the waters of the Northern Sea Route,” said Leonid Irlitsa, First Deputy General Director and Director for Shipping at Atomflot. “This platform will make shipping in the Arctic safer, more predictable and attractive. There is no such product not only in Russia, but also abroad.”

The implementation of the platform provides for the introduction of various digital services. They will create a unique opportunity to synchronize logistics operations and dispatch the fleet. The system will serve up to 1500 unique users who will have access to digital services for various functional purposes. Information on navigational, hydrometeorological, ice and environmental conditions in the Waters of the Northern Sea Route will be promptly provided.

The creation of the EPPC NSR is one of the elements of the Unified Action Plan for the implementation of the Fundamentals of the State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic for the period up to 2035 and the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and Ensuring National Security for the Period up to 2035. Rosatom State Corporation has been designated by the Government of the Russian Federation as the responsible executor of this task.

According to the terms of the contract, work on the creation of the EPPC NSR should be completed in the first quarter of 2024.

The EPPC of the NSR will become a central element of the digital ecosystem of the Northern Sea Route. The development of the NSR digital ecosystem is carried out within the framework of the initiative of socio-economic development of the Russian Federation until 2030 “Year-round Northern Sea Route”, approved by the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 06.10.2021 No. 2816-r.

“The beginning of the design of the Unified Platform for Digital Services will be a significant step towards the digital transformation of the Russian Arctic through the use of modern Russian IT solutions. The platform will control many parameters that determine the logistics of ships, and should ensure high availability of digital services and their stable operation around the clock. The Northern Sea Route has a huge potential that has not yet been fully disclosed. Therefore, over the next three years, Rosatom State Corporation and its organizations will turn it into one of the most convenient and safe transport highways equipped with advanced digital services,” said Evgeny Abakumov, Director for Information Technologies at Rosatom State Corporation.
