Cyprus Minister of Energy Natasa Pilides went to the drilling rig “Stena Forth” for information regarding the progress of the assessment drilling “Glafkos-2”

The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Natasa Pilides went today to the drilling rig “Stena Forth”, to evaluate the progress of the drilling work “Glafkos-2”, in Unit 10 of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus. The visit was also attended by the US Ambassador to Cyprus Judith Garber, the Deputy Government Spokeswoman Niovi Parisinou, the Director General of the Ministry of Energy Mr. Marios Panagides and the Chief Executive Officer of ExxonMobil Cyprus Mr. VarnaVas Theodosiou.

In a statement at the departure of the mission, Ms. Pilides said: “In the context of our excellent cooperation with the consortium of ExxonMobil and Qatar Energy, today we have the opportunity to visit the drilling rig that conducts the drilling ‘Glafkos-2’. The drilling is part of the assessment of the ‘Glafkos’ deposit, which through the initial drilling was found to have excellent quality hydrocarbons estimated at 5 to 8 trillion cubic feet. The work is proceeding smoothly. This is something that gives us great satisfaction. We believe that there is excellent cooperation between the government agencies and the consortium, so that any challenges due to the pandemic or that arise from this work, have been overcome so far without any problems. We hope that we will continue with these rhythms”.
