SnakeWays Tracks North with Lars Thrane and Iridium®

Integration with the Lars Thrane LT-4100 and Iridium Certus® 100 brings truly global access to the SnakeWays services, particularly for vessels working in high latitudes

SnakeWays GmbH and Lars Thrane A/S have today announced the successful integration of their respective ship to shore connectivity products utilising the recently announced Iridium Certus 100 satellite service.

With the assistance of their joint distributor, Hansael SIA in Latvia, the entire suite of SnakeWays services has been fully trialled and tested over the Lars Thrane LT-4100 terminal; ranging from the 4th generation email service; SnakeMail, through to SnakeTrack the latest innovation in vessel tracking.

The Iridium Certus 100 midband service provides a unique blend of capabilities for satellite connectivity, enabling smaller, lighter satellite terminals such as the LT-4100, but with IP data speeds that can support specialized applications to connect people and assets.

Both Lars Thrane A/S and SnakeWays GmbH are companies that have a strong heritage in providing the maritime community with innovative solutions that enhance ship to shore connectivity over L-band satellite networks. This integration marries Lars Thrane expertise in the design and development of shipboard satellite terminals with SnakeWays strength in developing solutions and applications that optimise the bandwidth available through those terminals. Both companies have targeted solutions that are highly efficient with minimum cost of implementation and support.

In many ways the integration of our connectivity services with the innovative work of Lars Thrane is a no-brainer,” according to Peter Schulze, CEO of SnakeWays GmbH. “Between the two companies we have many decades of experience working with L-band satellite networks and Iridium in particular. Both our companies have products that are ideally suited to maritime customers looking to take advantage of the world-wide service coverage of Iridium Certus.

It was our joint distributor, Hansael in Latvia that brought us together. Hansa have customers ready and waiting for our SnakeTrack solution running over the LT-4100.  Prior to us launching SnakeTrack on the Iridium Certus 100 network those customers were limited to GEO based vessel tracking services which can be unreliable in the higher latitudes.”
