Historical warship “SHTANDARD” in Cyprus

Limassol Marina is excited to announce the recent arrival of the legendary historic frigate “Shtandart” on 26 November which welcomed guests on board to participate in a variety of exhilarating activities. Over a thrilling 2 days, visitors got the fantastic opportunity to step back 300 hundred years in time and partake in once-in-a-lifetime events like steering the ship, climbing the rig, and even sailing the vessel.

Constructed by the same crew who built the “Black Pearl” that was featured in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, the “Shtandart” is an exact replica of the warship used by Peter the Great in the defense of St. Petersburg. The original ship that serves as its inspiration was completed in 1703 and it was on that frigate that that the Baltic Naval Fleet began its history. Today’s “Shtandart” was built by hand by a team of enthusiasts led by naval architect and sailor Vladimir Martus in 1999, and has been sailing almost continuously ever since, operating as a living museum and a sail-training vessel. It has also been cast in more than 20 movies, including The Sovereign’s Servant (2007, Russia), The Secret Service Agent’s Memories (2011, Russia), Nova Zembla (2011, Netherlands), Michiel de Ruyter (2015, Netherlands), 22 ángeles (2016, Spain) and others.
