Royal SMIT Transformers completes the acquisition of DNV’s transformer oil laboratory

Royal SMIT, a company of the SGB-SMIT Group, acquires the Transformer Oil Laboratory of DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider, pursuant to the agreement executed between the parties in July 2021.
This transfer comprises, among others, the personnel working for the Transformer Oil Laboratory, equipment, data bank with historical information, ongoing business, and the ISO 17025 accreditation of Transformer Oil Laboratory in Arnhem.
“With this acquisition, the SGB-SMIT Group further strengthens its services in the field of insulation oil analysis and its position as an expert in the service and maintenance of technologically high-quality transformers. The ISO 17025 accreditation will guarantee the independent position of the oil laboratory-related services”, says Roland Vrenken, CEO of Royal SMIT Transformers.
Prajeev Rasiah, Regional Director, Northern Europe of Energy Systems at DNV concludes: “The Transformer Oil laboratory has very specific expertise that fits excellent with the SBG-SMIT Group. We are very confident our oil experts will add a lot of value to SMIT services. In line with our strategy, DNV continues to focus on providing advanced, often digital advisory and certification services in the context of increased electricity production from renewable energy sources and deep decarbonization of the energy industry.
The Transformer Oil Laboratory is expected to move from Arnhem to Nijmegen in January 2022. In Nijmegen a complete new laboratory will be equipped combining the Transformer Oil Laboratory in Arnhem with Royal SMIT Transformers’ oil analysis activities. Royal SMIT Transformers will operate the laboratory independently, conform the ISO 17025 standard.
