Gasum and Nokian Tyres sign a wind power agreement

Tommy Mattila Gasum, Vice President, Industry

The Nordic energy company Gasum has signed a 10-year agreement to supply Nokian Tyres with renewable wind power in Finland. The contract is another step forward in Gasum’s strategy to increase the supply of renewable energy, including wind power, across the Nordics.

Starting in 2023, the agreement will further strengthen the relationship between the two companies and consolidate Gasum’s position in the wind power segment. The power will be produced by a wind farm in North Ostrobotnia, supporting Finland’s self-sufficiency in electricity production.

For Nokian Tyres, the deal secures a supply of renewable energy and will help the company produce lower emissions and show leadership in environmental matters. Nokian Tyres develops and manufactures high-quality tires for passenger cars, vans and trucks.

-For the past two years, Nokian Tyres has used only renewable electricity in Finland. The agreement with Gasum is in line with the transition to clean energy production and provides our company with more stability in green energy availability, says Teppo Huovila, VP, Quality & Sustainability, Nokian Tyres.

-In most industries, achieving the necessary climate targets is heavily dependent on the availability of renewable energy. We are very excited to enter into this agreement as it marks another milestone for both our partnership and for Gasum as a comprehensive energy services provider. We have worked with Nokian Tyres in energy market services and now we are able to supply them with domestic, clean energy. Wind power has a crucial role to play in meeting the growing demand for greener energy solutions and looking ahead we will increase our acquisition of wind generated power, says Tommy Mattila, Vice President, Industry, Gasum.

Gasum sells renewable electricity and is a major actor in the wind power segment and strives to increase acquisition of renewable wind power also going forward. Gasum also provides diverse energy market expert services, like electricity market portfolio management and market reporting services, guarantees of origin for electricity, expert services for emissions trading, and 24/7 control room services for electricity balance risk management. Additionally, the company offers biogas and natural gas for industry, maritime and road transport.
