Caffè Vergnano on board the ships of Costa Cruises

Costa Cruises, the cruise company flying the Italian flag, and Caffè Vergnano, the historic Piedmontese company still run by the Vergnano family, announce a strategic partnership to bring the unique flavor of Made in Italy espresso on board cruise ships.

The agreement confirms the two companies’ desire to work together to promote Italian excellence and attention to sustainability, a fundamental value of both companies.

Caffè Vergnano’s authentic Italian espresso will be served in the bars of all the ships in the Costa fleet, and its unmistakable blend will also be used to prepare many coffee-based delicacies on the on-board . On the “green” flagship Costa Smeralda, and soon on its sister ship Costa Toscana – currently under construction – the first Caffè Vergnano 1882 branded cafeteria on board a cruise ship has also been created. It is a magical place, where coffee lovers will be able to breathe in the real atmosphere of an Italian café on the sea.

The collaboration between Costa Cruises and Caffè Vergnano will focus on sustainability, which is today an essential element for a company that wants to leave a positive mark and act responsibly for future generations, trying to reduce its environmental impact as much as possible. In this regard, it is noteworthy the decision to set up the Caffè Vergnano 1882 brand cafeterias right on board the two most innovative ships in the Costa fleet, also in terms of sustainability. Costa Smeralda, the current flagship that offers seven-day cruises in the Western Mediterranean, and her sister ship Costa Toscana, which will enter service at the end of the year, are in fact the first ships of the Costa fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas, the most advanced technology in the world in the maritime sector for the reduction of emissions, which the Italian company was the first to introduce in the cruise industry. Through its ships, Costa aims to promote forms of tourism that are increasingly inclusive and attentive to the needs of local areas and communities, as demonstrated by the recent presentation of the “its Manifesto for value-driven, sustainable and inclusive tourism”, which was shared with institutions.

“As a cruise company flying the Italian flag, our mission has always been to be ambassadors of Made in Italy in the world, and we are pleased to follow this path by bringing the quality of Caffè Vergnano’s Italian espresso on board all our ships. It is a new, important partnership with a historic company, which shares our same values of promoting Italian excellence and paying attention to environmental and social sustainability. As a confirmation of this, the «greenest » and most sustainable ships of our fleet, Costa Smeralda and Costa Toscana, will also offer a dedicated coffee experience with Caffè Vergnano 1882-branded cafeterias” – says Mario Zanetti, President of Costa Cruises.

“Here at Caffè Vergnano we are very happy about this new agreement, and we can’t wait to get on board! In a particularly complicated historical moment, Caffè Vergnano has been able to establish a strategic collaboration with Costa Cruises, which will allow it to further establish itself as an ambassador of authentic Italian espresso in the world and to get closer and closer to a lifestyle concept. Caffè Vergnano and Costa Cruises have always shared the same values of sustainability and excellence, and with this agreement they want to look to the future from a global point of view, to talk to enthusiasts of travel and discovery, to those

who appreciate the beauty of diversity, to those who know how to turn a trip into an adventure because every departure is an emotion” – says Carolina Vergnano, CEO of Caffè Vergnano 1882.

With Caffè Vergnano and Costa Cruises, the Made in Italy espresso leaves the land behind and set sails to discover new horizons, with the enthusiasm of new perspectives, beyond what was usual and towards a more sustainable world.
