National Union of Seafarers of India urge all Indian crew members to register for vaccinations

A circular released by the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) general secretary Abdulgani Y. Serang urges all Indian seafarers to register for vaccinations.

NUSI has been working to get seafarers recognised as key workers and prioritised for the Covid vaccine.

Due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in India, some countries have banned entry to crew members who have travelled to India recently.

According to NUSI, shipowners are only taking on Indian seafarers that have been vaccinated, which is directly affecting the employment of thousands of Indian seafarers.

NUSI is facilitating the Covid-19 vaccine from its 17 branches across India. Registration for the vaccine for those over the age of 18 starts from 28 April 2021 via the Indian government website, and vaccinations will begin from 1 May.
