Prohibition on the discharge of open-loop scrubber wash-water in Turkish waters

Further to the club’s previous news item on the use of open loop scrubbers when transiting Turkish Straits, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of Turkey has officially issued an announcement (dated 6 April 2021) regarding the prohibition of discharge of wash water from open-loop scrubbers in Turkish territorial waters.

For further details, members are recommended to refer to the circular issued by the club’s local correspondent in Turkey (Kalimbassieris Maritime A.S.) together with a copy of the official announcement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and its translation.

Members are recommended to be mindful of these restrictions and ensure that their crew switch to compliant low-sulphur fuel well in advance of the ship’s entering / sailing in Turkish waters.
