NYK has been recognized as one of the top shipping lines in the Green Flag vessel speed reduction program that the Port of Long Beach has been conducting to improve air quality. It was the 12th consecutive recognition for NYK since 2009.

The Green Flag program aims to restrain exhaust emissions from vessels by having them voluntarily operate under 12 knots within 40 miles of port.

In 2020, NYK-operated vessels that called at Long Beach conducted a slow steaming operation in the target area and NYK was praised for its contribution to the exhaust gas cut.

On February 3, 2021, NYK announced the NYK Group ESG Story*, which aims to further integrate ESG into the company’s management strategy and promotes activities that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through business activities. To strongly promote ESG management, the NYK Group will encourage new value creation as a sustainable solution provider by contributing to the preservation of the global environment.
